Washington, D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15) and Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) introduced the Cutting LNG Bunkering Red Tape Act, a bill that codifies a Trump-era Department of Energy (DOE) order clarifying that ship-to-ship transfers of liquefied natural gas (LNG) used as marine fuel—commonly known as LNG bunkering—are not considered exports under Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act unless conducted in foreign waters. The bill is referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

Washington, D.C. - Today, Congresswoman Laurel Lee (R-FL-15) reintroduced the CBP SPACE Act (Securing Ports and America’s Commerce and Economy) to foster help a collaborative approach to securing trade and travel. It is essential that Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and seaports work together as partners. However, CBP has recently indicated it may halt operations unless ports cover the costs of screening equipment, a move that could jeopardize national security.

The bill removes the upcoming 2026 expiration date from the original law and makes key updates to ensure that survivors’ claims are heard fairly in court.

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15) introduced the Lieutenant Osvaldo Albarati Stopping Prison Contraband Act to combat the growing threat posed by illegal cell phones in federal prisons. The bill would make it a felony to smuggle a cell phone into a correctional facility, strengthen deterrence against future smuggling, and require a comprehensive review of the Department of Justice’s current contraband enforcement policies.

The current penalty for smuggling a phone into a prison is up to a year.

Plant City, F.L. – Today, Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15) spoke to students at Marshall Middle Magnet School as a part of Google’s “Online Safety Roadshow” to teach students how to stay safe and smart online. 

During the Online Safety Roadshow assembly, the first such event held by Google in the area, students spent the 45-minute program learning important skills, including how to create a safe and memorable password, why it’s important to take breaks from screens, and the value of being kind online.
