Law Enforcement and Community Safety
When I speak with my constituents, they tell me their families do not feel safe anymore due to an increase in crime in their communities. To ensure community safety, we must remove the red tape that ties our law enforcement hands.
As a former judge and prosecutor, I support our men and women in blue and I strongly oppose “defund the police” rhetoric and policies. I have seen firsthand the vital role our police play in our criminal justice system and in ensuring our friends and families can live in a safe community. We must support our police officers while also ensuring prosecutors and local officials fully enforce the law.
I will always support legislation that fully funds our law enforcement and equips them with the resources they need to keep our streets and communities safe.

Washington, D.C. — Yesterday, Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15) slammed Secretary Mayorkas for his refusal to uphold the law at the Committee on Homeland Security hearing entitled, “Voices for the Victims: The Heartbreaking Reality of the Mayorkas Border Crisis.”
“What do we have instead? An administration that has deliberately subverted the laws, who have deliberately defied the orders of courts which have ordered that they desist these unlawful policies," said Rep. Laurel Lee.
Washington, D.C. – This week, Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15) and Congressman Joe Neguse (CO-2) introduced the bipartisan Combating Online Fentanyl Trafficking Act which will bolster the workforce that detects, prevents, and prosecutes online fentanyl trafficking. This bill will improve the Department of Justice’s ability to combat the distribution of this lethal drug while strengthening our national security and cyberinfrastructure.
In 2023, there were over 112,000 overdose deaths, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Laurel Lee (R-FL) released the following statement after her bill, the National Human Trafficking Hotline Enhancement Act, passed out of the House Judiciary Committee by a voice vote. This legislation would require entities that contract with the National Human Trafficking Hotline to cooperate with state and local law enforcement when receiving tips through the Hotline.
