Rep. Laurel Lee Slams Democrats for Soft-on-Crime Policies
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Laurel Lee (R-FL) highlighted the cost of Democrats’ soft-on-crime policies during the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance hearing entitled, “Victims of Violent Crime in the District of Columbia.” This hearing examined the rise of violent crime in Washington, D.C., and the lack of accountability and prosecutions of criminals.
Democrat’s soft-on-crime policies have caused crime to skyrocket across the country. Washington, D.C. has one of the highest crime rates in the country, with the violent crime rate at 664.2 per 100,000 people. In the first nine months of 2023, D.C. surpassed 200 homicides, the quickest it has hit this mark since the 1990s. Our nation’s capital should be a welcoming beacon for tourists and a safe community for residents.
