Rep. Laurel Lee’s Statement on House Passage of the SAVE Act

April 10, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15) released the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act. This bill will support state and local elections officials by providing them with data and tools necessary to help them verify the accuracy of voter rolls. Additionally, it will strengthen current law by requiring documentary proof of U.S. citizenship to register to vote in federal elections

"Ensuring Americans have confidence in our election system is a top priority of mine, and one of the most effective ways we can do that is by guaranteeing that only citizens are voting in federal elections because the vast majority of Americans believe that only U.S. citizens should vote in our elections. Congress must commit to supporting elections officials and voters by making voting accessible and secure for American voters," said Rep. Laurel Lee. "The SAVE Act will support state and local elections officials by providing them with data and tools necessary to help them verify the accuracy of voter rolls to help protect our elections and ensure that only American citizens are casting ballots. As someone who has worked in elections at both the state and national levels, I am proud to see this bill pass the House, and I look forward to working with President Trump to safeguard the integrity of our elections."
