Rep. Laurel Lee’s Election Integrity Bill Passes out of Committee

July 14, 2023

Washington, D.C. – Today, Committee on House Administration Subcommittee on Elections Chair Laurel Lee (R-FL) released the following statement after H.R. 4563, the American Confidence in Elections (ACE) Act of 2023, passed out of the Committee on House Administration. This legislation now heads to the House Floor for consideration.

“The Committee has worked in collaboration with Secretaries of State, local elections officials, legislators, and voters across the country to craft this legislation to boost voter confidence in our elections and protect free speech,” said Rep. Laurel Lee. “I would like to thank Chairman Steil for his leadership, and I am proud to see this bill pass out of committee and look forward to seeing it brought to the House Floor for final passage.”

“We are one step closer to passing the most conservative, transformative election integrity bill in the House in over 20 years. The ACE Act will ensure states have tools to implement common-sense measures that will strengthen voter confidence and participation. I thank Subcommittee Chair Lee for sharing her expertise as a former elections administrator to ensure the bill includes meaningful and substantive reforms,” said Chairman Bryan Steil.

This legislation will equip states with election integrity tools to ensure all Americans’ First Amendment rights are safe. Additionally, this legislation will prevent non-citizen voting, ensure the men and women serving our country have their ballots counted, and direct federal resources to increase election security measures.

“As Florida’s former Secretary of State, I oversaw the state’s elections as the Chief Elections Official. As the third largest state, we produce results on election night—this goes a long way in ensuring voter confidence. The ACE Act reinforces voter confidence in our elections while respecting the Constitution, federalism, and conservative principles. This legislation will promote election transparency, increase security and efficiency, and make sure states across the country have access to resources and best practices to do elections right,” Rep. Lee continued.

Rep. Lee is an original cosponsor of the ACE Act.
