Rep. Laurel Lee Secures Funding for New Security Screening Equipment at Tampa International Airport

November 18, 2024

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15) is pleased to announce that Tampa International Airport (TPA) will be receiving additional Checkpoint Property Screening Systems (CPSS) following her request to the Administrator of the Transportation Security Agency (TSA). This funding would be a part of the Tampa International Airport terminal expansion project, including the reconstruction and expansion of TSA security checkpoints at Airsides A and E. The project is expected to be completed in July 2025.

Congresswoman Laurel Lee sent a letter to TSA in July requesting funding for new full-size screening equipment as a part of this expansion project. This week, TSA responded with a letter to Congresswoman Lee to report TPA will receive full-size CPSS equipment from this funding.

"Around 25 million passengers make their way through Tampa International Airport (TPA) every year. I am pleased to announce that we were able to secure funding for brand-new, full-size security equipment at TSA checkpoints at Tampa International,” said Congresswoman Laurel Lee. “These new installations will make traveling through TPA easier and safer than ever, which is especially important as tourism in and around the Tampa Bay Area continues to grow."
