Rep. Laurel Lee Questions Witnesses, Addresses Energy Demand and Grid Reliability at Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy Hearing

March 5, 2025

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15) questioned witnesses at the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Energy hearing titled “Scaling For Growth: Meeting The Demand For Reliable, Affordable Electricity” to address energy demand and grid reliability.

Excerpt from today's hearing, as prepared:

"Ensuring the reliability and affordability of our electric power system is crucial for our national security, economy, and well-being of our communities. As you may know, my home state of Florida is the nation’s second largest producer of electricity. With rapid population growth, increased manufacturing, and advances in technologies including AI and data centers, our electricity demand and production will only continue to rise.

"It is imperative that our electric grid is prepared to meet this growing demand for power. Our generation and transmission systems must be reliable and resilient, with the ability to ensure continuous power supply and respond quickly to unforeseen circumstances and changes in demand. I look forward to speaking with our witnesses today about current-day challenges in the electricity sector and how Congress can best address them."
