Rep. Laurel Lee Appointed to the House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence

Washington, D.C. – Speaker of the House Mike Johnson recently appointed Congresswoman Laurel Lee (FL-15) to the newly created House Task Force on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The Task Force will explore how Congress can ensure America continues to lead the world in AI innovation while working to safeguard the nation against current and emerging threats.

“Artificial intelligence is a cornerstone of innovation, allowing us to advance far beyond any limits of human capability. Because of quick advancements in AI, it is important for Congress to remain diligent and plan for complexities to keep a competitive edge,” said Rep. Laurel Lee. “I would like to thank Speaker Johnson for entrusting me to ensure that the United States remains a leader in this arena. I look forward to working with my colleagues in a bipartisan way to promote policies, standards, and resources that will benefit and protect Americans while continuing to support innovation in AI.”

The Task Force will partner with committees of jurisdiction to produce a comprehensive report that will include guiding principles, forward-looking recommendations, and bipartisan policy proposals.

Speaker Johnson and Leader Hakeem Jeffries appointed twenty-four members to the Task Force which will be jointly led by Chair Jay Obernolte (CA-23) and Co-Chair Ted Lieu (CA-36).
